Really good to hear he has landed in a happier place. Wish him all the best

Absolutely. Wade strikes me as one of life's good guys.

As he says, he's probably going to be remembered for what happened at the start of last season and not the fact he led us to our second highest ever finish and was a penalty shootout away from Wembley.

Always struck me as a great coach, not necessarily a leader.

So many unknowns with Wade. Was the 17th place finish just him benefitting from Duff's legacy? How different would things have been if the club had handled the upheaval in summer 2023 better? I think he was completely frazzled by September and just was unable to operate at all effectively.

Wade always struck me as a good coach and astute tactician. If he works with an assistant who could handle the man-management aspects I think he could be really successful.

He was also integral to Duff's tenure.

Class act. Doesn't deserve the negativity from some aimed at him.

Didn't really expect him to be anything but "frazzled" after we gave him zero backroom staff at the start of last season - it's a tough enough job already being a lower league manager on our level of budget. Seems that our succession planning (as at our level there will always be players/staff poached by larger clubs - unless we get to that higher level) leaves a lot to be desired.

Glad to hear that he's in a better frame of mind now as he always struck me as an astute guy👍

The football under Wade was largely poor to watch but I think that was influenced a lot by the capitulation against Peterbrough in his first game but he largely got results and kept us far away from a relegation battle in his first season as well as missing out on a Wembley trip. His sacking was probably too late, he wasn't getting the absolute best out of players (being too cautious when we were on that poor run) but a huge factor for that was the off the field issues he had to do with especially recruitment, no assistant manager, he was put in an almost untenable position by the board.

I'm not Wades biggest fan.

However I'm not sure which is worse 'football' under Flynn or Wade.

Hoof ball or endless switching across the back with no real threat.

One common theme ..neither helped by board.
Flynn Dof...Wade staff turnover.

"Wade Out" runs to in the first race at Uttoxeter and it's favourite which seems appropriate as it was much the same amongst a proportion of fans this time last year.

Seriously, happy for him he's in a better place.

Wade love in....also available on this site.
(Not by me)
Clarke yes. Love the frickin cap...that's why our boys put their bodies on the line. Mr motivator.
Horses for courses
All things considered with whats transpired since...Wade was treated badly.

Bear in mind most real fans can think of nothing worse than sacking their manager. Unlesss:
1) the manager is clueless (formation !)
2) cannot motivate
3) cannot drill basic football principles
4) all of the above

Hoff ball is close 5) but currently omitted until we drop into the bottom 2

Here's a fun fact.
The season we threw away a 2 goal lead to Northampton and lost I stood to win a 5 figure sum....from a pre season bet. We lost.
This was placed on careful consideration of how we had played and progressed.

This season I have a similar bet also placed with similar consideration. But the other way.

Bet responsibly.

Actually backed him in his bumpers partly because the name made me laugh. No regrets. Owned by Alex Ferguson as well. Should win tomorrow as well.

Anyway, Wade was dealt a near-impossible hand in his 2nd season. 1st season was saved by May and the fact we had the momentum + a very similar squad to the L2 winning squad. Good to see him doing well and spending more time with his family.

I will say this until my dying day - Alfie May was not responsible for 16 clean sheets!!

You are right, he wasn't, however what he did was allow us to play the so called low block (packed defence and deep midfield) but still maintain a goal threat with his great form. When we tried to do the same without him at the start of last season we all saw the outcome i.e. 11 games without a goal!

You're both right!

We played a low block, possession game under Wade. But that required a well-coached, well-organised defence and midfield to work. It didn't happen by accident. Alfie was undoubtedly an epic goalscorer in that period, but his twenty-odd goals would have meant far less if we'd been shipping 2 or 3 every game.

Exactly my point.

I'm not criticising Alfie at all, he's certainly in my top 3 Cheltenham players of all time. I just hate this talk of us being a one man team. It doesn't matter how well he plays if the defence can't stop the other teams from scoring.

Wade’s full season was one of the best in my living memory as a CTFC fan.

By his own admission he was frazzled after the summer and 9 goalless games - which he discusses with the insightful reflection and humbleness he always shows. But for me, the memories of some of the games in Wade’s first season will live long in the minds eye as some of the best we have seen and that’s how I’ll remember him.

Mad to think that it's only 18 months since we took Sheffield Wednesday to the wire. A game that had absolutely everything - torrential rain, floodlights, a big name team, goals, "limbs" - one of my favourite ever games.

We're now nearly 60 places apart in the League.

I was in Simpson's before that match and had the joy of hearing an archetypal Yorkshireman go "OWWWW F'KIN MUCH???!"
