Yesterday was the 15th time we have conceded 5 goals or more in the Football League.
13 defeats plus a 5-5 draw at Wycombe and 6-5 win at Burton.
But who can remember all 13 defeats?
Off the top of my head:-
8-1 at Crewe 2010
6-1 at Portsmouth 2017
5-0 home to Cambridge 2022
Struggling a bit already, heavy defeat at Stevenage maybe? No doubt I’ll kick myself in a minute for not remembering more?

I was at the Stadium of Light for our 5-0 “slapping” there, as Duff called it.
Cotterill’s Notts County turned us over 5-0 and we also lost 3-5 at home to County as well.

Oh yes end of 2017/18 season 6-1. Mo Eisa got our goal from a penalty.
Bad end to that season followed by a poor start the following season and GJ was gone.
Isn’t it something like 8 defeats for us now in the last 12 matches? Just sayin’ like….
if only the outcome was the same

Both games against Leicester were 4-0 defeats. I remember that home game as it was my 24th birthday. I'll be 41 in two weeks - where does the time go?
I'm struggling to think of any more 5s against, but can remember some of the games we've scored 5 in - Plymouth 5-2 in 2001, Mansfield away 5-0 on the last day of the 05/06 season.

Away at Rotherham. Got a lift with Red Duke, of this parish, only to see Le Fondre score four in a 6-3 or 6-4 defeat.

Funny that our most successful ever season, in terms of position in the EFL, featured three games where we conceded five.
It was a good job that Alfie had found his scoring boots by then, because it wasn't the defence that got us to the dizzy heights of just about mid-table L1!TheTownClub wrote: ↑18 Aug 2025, 12:02 Funny that our most successful ever season, in terms of position in the EFL, featured three games where we conceded five.
After GJ LEFT MD had to pick up the mess left by his predecessor,i doubt if Michael will fall for that gig again ?
